Craig was born May 15, 1956 in Paola, KS to Floyd Bernard and Christine Opal (Buchanan) Everhart. He grew up and lived in Overland Park, KS prior to moving to De Soto, KS in Jan. 2002. Craig married Denise Elaine Hower on Sept. 1, 1978 in Westport, MO. Craig was a member of the BSA for most of his life and met Denise thru their Explorer Program. Craig loved going to Philmont Scout Ranch in his youth and was able to attend Philmont as a Asst. Scoutmaster with both his boys, which was the perfect way to end their scouting adventures for all three. He worked as a Senior Park Worker for Johnson County Parks and Recreation District from 1984-2005 and for KDOT as an Engineering Tech 1 from 1978 to 1984. Craig and his best friend, Glen Sharp who was his partner in crime, although they were never arrested. They both had great senses of humor and loved teasing Denise most of all. Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, basically anything to do with nature and passed the love and skills of outdoor survival to both his sons. He also grew up roller skating, water skiing, and easily learned how to snow ski as a adult. He attended De Soto United Methodist Church. Craig will be dearly missed by family and friends. Thankfully God never gave Craig or Denise more than they could handle, and they lived a truly blessed life!
He was preceded in death by his parents. Craig is survived by his wife, Denise, of the home; sons: Jacob Everhart (Emily Kessinger) Overland Park, KS and Joseph Everhart, Colorado. Grandchildren: Lucas Craig Everhart, Connor and Savannah Kessinger; siblings: Christine Staten (Craig) Parker, KS, Bruce Everhart (Linda) Wellsville, KS, and Bryan Everhart Overland Park KS ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

There is a special group of boys from northern JOCO that came to age in the late 80s and early 90s. They are unique because they learned how to do things most kids didn't, even for kids back then. They didn't know it at the time, but they were learning how to fix broken things, how to work hard with good humor, and how to navigate the real non-digital world around them. Those boys are men now, and they are the best you will find. This took incredible investments from some exceptional dads. Craig was one of those dads, one of the last real-deal dads that knew how to do a few things...and more importantly took the time to pass that knowledge on to a lucky few of us. I'm sad to see him depart this world, but he deserves his rest after all that good work.

Dearest Denise and family,

I was so sad when Loretta shared the news of Craig's passing. I wish that I could be there graveside with you to say goodbye. Craig was a wonderful, down to earth, honest, funny man, and he lived and thrived on the love that your family showered him with, no matter how tough things became for him. I have never witnessed such grace by a family, as I have witnessed with yours over the years. Denise, your steadfast devotion, compassion, kindness and selflessness not just to Craig himself, but to others, has been so beautiful to observe. I can recall so many times that you were kind and helpful to me and to my children, year after year, in spite of all the challenges you were going through. Craig's courage too and his utter and complete love for all of you shows in every one of these pictures, from the very beginning of your life together. It was wonderful to see him in pictures as a young man, a man in love, a new father. What a beautiful tribute.
We are praying for strength, patience and above all love, to see you through these hard days as you adjust to his absence. I also want to take this moment to celebrate his profound impact on my life and thank him for being a good man, a good human being, a good father and husband and a lovely family member to have known all these years. He is standing tall in Heaven! Finally! I am sure of it - happy in the knowledge that he had a good life, well lived, and full of love. Goodbye sweet Craig.

Blessings to you and your family. Our hearts and prayers are with you.
