Leonard William  Finley
Leonard William Finley, 89, a long time resident of rural Gardner, went home to be with the Lord November 15, 2010 at Wellsville Retirement Community. Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Friday, November 19, 2010 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS, 913-856-7111, with burial at Prairie Center Cemetery, Eudora, KS. Visitation will be from 6:30 – 8:00 pm Thursday, November 18, 2010 also at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be sent to Berean Bible Institute or Olathe Hospice. Leonard was born in Gardner on August 5, 1921 to John E and Mary C (Brecheisen) Finley. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1939. He farmed and raised cattle northwest of Gardner, retiring in 1998. Leonard married Evelyn Tiemann on April 15, 1961, in Lincoln, KS. He was a faithful husband for 49 years. Leonard served his Lord and the community as a Sunday School teacher at the Gardner Presbyterian Church, was a member of Midwest Grace Fellowship, a member of the Advisory Board of First Kansas Bank, a past director of the Farmer’s Bank, a member of the soil and water conservation board, a Sunnyside 4-H Community Leader, a board member of the fire district, a conservation district board member and a Prairie Center Cemetery board member and treasurer.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Ruth M. Finley and Naomi A Wakeman. He is survived by his wife Evelyn of the home; son Byron J. Finley and wife Maribeth of Gardner, KS; and five grandchildren, Jonathan, Janelle, Jared, Joanna and Jocelyn.
