Obituary for William Christie Rickey

A Life Remembered…

William (Bill) Christie Rickey, 96, of Gardner, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 at his home.

Born on September 7, 1926 in Washington, Iowa, William was the son of Farrel and Opal (Beauchamp) Rickey. He was raised in Iowa and graduated in 1945 from Crawfordville High School. William was a United States Army Veteran. He farmed the family farm in Iowa for over 25 years then went on to truck driving for a few years before moving to Arizona and becoming a machinist at Honeywell. After leaving Arizona, William moved to Olathe, KS then to Gardner, KS. He was a member of Masons for over 50 years. He enjoyed doing lots of woodworking, camping, playing cards, square dancing and just being outdoors. One of his best trips was when he was able to go on the Honor Flight to Washington DC. William’s most favorite time was spent being with his family and friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents; wives Kathryn, Imogene, JoAnna and Joyce; daughter Linda Jacobs and sister Maxine Grothe. He is survived by his daughters Shirley (Gary) Gillard of Edgerton, KS; Arlene (Loran LaVern)Truitt of Olathe, KS; 8 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of William’s life will be held at New Hope Presbyterian Church 13310 S. Blackbob in Olathe, KS. On Saturday the 11th of March at 11:00am. Inurnment will be in Iowa at a later date.
