Obituary for Troy Venton Thompson Jr.

Troy V. Thompson passed peacefully February 3rd at home with his family by his side. He was born on Aug. 3, 1941 in Stanley, KS to Troy Clifford V. Thompson, Sr., and Margaret Louise (May) Thompson. He grew up in Olathe. Troy married Ada Joann Thomas Dec. 4, 1960 in De Soto, KS and they moved to De Soto in 1962 to raise their family. Troy retired from Ford Motor Co., UAW Local 249 in 1994. He was a very loyal worker and strong union supporter. Troy was instrumental in establishing and working with the De Soto Rescue Unit. Troy was also a Police Officer with the De Soto Police Department. He was a member of De Soto Baptist Church. Troy was a 32* Master Mason for 56 years as a member of De Soto Lodge #40 AF&AM. He was a Past Master and was District Deputy Grand Master two times, Troy was dedicated to his Masonic work. Since 1986 Troy enjoyed spending time at their lake house at Lake of the Ozarks. He loved the outdoors, hunting, horseshoe tournaments and riding his lawn mower as well as traveling with Joann in the RV. Troy farmed for several local farmers for years and was at home on any tractor. Troy will be missed by his family and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Craig Linden; siblings: Shirley Nelson, Thomas Thompson and Carol Thompson. Troy is survived by his wife, Ada JoAnn Thompson; children: Pamela (Kim) Starling, Kansas City, MO, Cheryl Linden, Linwood, KS and William “Bill” (Michele) Thompson, De Soto, KS; siblings: Ronald (Marge) Thompson, Clairmont, FL; four grandchildren: Jeniffer (Chad) Simmons, Dalton (Danielle) Thompson, Kierstin (Rhyn) Evans, Haleigh (Tyler) Linden and three great-grandchildren: Cayden and Cialey Simmons and Stella Monroe Evans.
