Sadie “Ginger” Maurine Carnes, 94, Olathe, Kansas passed away Thursday, November 28, 2019 at Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, Kansas 66030 (913-856-7111). Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Paola Cemetery, Paola, Kansas. Ginger was born January 5, 1925 in Pleasanton, Kansas to Omer and Ada (Carpenter) Gillum. Growing up Ginger’s family moved to several towns because of her father’s work. She lived in Lawrence, Kansas City, Kansas, Gardner and Olathe. On May 31, 1947 Ginger married James “Jay” A. Carnes in Paola, Kansas. They moved to Olathe in 1986. She liked to spend time creating needlepoint magnets and making potpourri. Sadie and Jay enjoyed traveling. She loved her church and was a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church.
Ginger was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jay in 1998 and siblings: Howard Gillum, Florence Mullies, Roy Gillum, Edna Giamone and Esther Hornberger. She is survived by her children: James and wife Alice Carnes, Lenexa, Kansas, Cherie Cannon, Kansas City, Kansas and Vicki Carnes, Platte City, Missouri; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and brother John “Rudy” Gillum, Delta, Colorado.
