Obituary for Roy Ralph Bowlin

Roy Ralph Bowlin, 88, Olathe, Kansas passed away Friday, December 13, 2019. Visitation will be 10:00-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 18, 2019 with the Funeral Service to follow at 11:30 a.m. at the De Soto United Methodist Church, 8760 Kill Creek Rd, De Soto, Kansas 66018. Burial will be at the De Soto Cemetery. In honor of Roy, please dress casually for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to the De Soto United Methodist Church General Fund. Roy was born May 3, 1931 in rural Olathe, Kansas to Massasoit Ralph and Verna Velma (Freeman) Bowlin. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1949. Roy served in the United States Army and Army National Guard. He worked on the family farm raising crops, cattle, turkeys, chickens, and other livestock. Roy worked on his parent’s egg route on Minnesota Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. He married Gladys Mae Siscoe on July 19, 1968 in Lenexa, Kansas. Together, they raised two children on the farm in south De Soto. He was a seed dealer for Asgrow for many years. Roy and Gladys worked on the farm together for 40 years before retiring in 2009. He was a member of the De Soto United Methodist Church and Board of Directors for the De Soto State Bank. Roy was involved in his community as a member of the Lexington Township Board and JOCO Conservation Board and Farm Bureau. Roy was a lifelong Johnson County resident and will be missed by family and friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Marjorie Denmark. He is survived by his wife Gladys of the home; son Steve (Sherry) Bowlin, Olathe, Kansas; daughter Barbara (Doug) Weis, De Soto, Kansas; four grandchildren: Brad (Samantha) Bowlin, Christy (Anand) Naik, Cassandra (Bianca) Ancharski, and Tyler Gregg; also four great-grandchildren: Avery and Casey Bowlin and Jai and Bodhi Naik.
