Robert Franklin Newby, 80, Gardner, Kansas passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2020 at Good Samaritan Society, Olathe, Kansas. A Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 15, 2020 at Hillsdale Cemetery, W. 255 St., Hillsdale, Kansas. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com
Robert was born March 16, 1940 in Cameron, Missouri to Franklin and Ethel Mae (Neiderhauser) Newby. He grew up in Cameron and graduated from Cameron High School. Robert was a veteran of the United States Army. He married Katherine Blackburn Sidwell on October 20, 1980 in Oklahoma. Robert was a meat cutter for 44 years. He worked for 14 years at Cosentino’s Price Chopper, Kansas City, Missouri before retiring. Robert was a member of the Assembly of God Church at Lone Elm. He will be missed by family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife Katherine of the home; children Gaelinna Roebuck, Lake Wood, Washington, Garth (Julia) Newby, Phoenix, Arizona; stepchildren: Mark (Toren) Sidwell, Portsmouth, Virginia, Scott (Nancy) Sidwell and Kristy (Dan) Frazier all of Olathe, Kansas; sisters Wanda Jones, Smithville, Missouri and Lala ( Lloyd) Milligan, Liberty, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and his sister.
