Rita Jane Hathaway, 79, Spring Hill, Kansas passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Advent Health, Shawnee Mission, Kansas. Funeral service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, Kansas 66083 (913) 592-2244. Inurnment 10:00 am Thursday, June 3, 2021 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. Rita was born to James Maxwell and Caroline Anita (Fleenor) Scritchfield on June 30, 1941 in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated in 1959 from Seaman High School, Topeka, Kansas. Rita married Charles “Chuck” Boeger Hathaway in Topeka, Kansas on May 23, 1970. She worked as an Avon district manager, retiring in 2011. Chuck and Rita moved to Spring Hill in 1988. Rita had a “green thumb” enjoying flowers. She liked singing, going to the lake, playing solitaire, watching game shows and being with family and friends. Rita loved her Avon family and her cats Mittens and Smokey. She was a member of Northland Christian Church, Topeka, Kansas.
Rita is preceded in death by her parents, husband Chuck in 2020 and brother J.C. Scritchfield. She is survived by her children: Eddie Hathaway, Michelle (Don) Norris, Michael Hathaway, and Charles (Christine) Hathaway; siblings: Phil Scritchfield, Connie (Ed) Kearn and Steve Scritchfield; grandchildren: Christy (Paul) Voegele, Nicole (Brent) Criqui, Charles R. Hathaway and Keaton Hathaway and great-grandchild Brody Criqui.
