Reta Marie Jenks, 82, De Soto, Kansas passed away Sunday, February 19, 2023 at her home. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at De Soto Baptist Church, 8655 Copeland Way, De Soto, Kansas. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 at De Soto Baptist Church. Burial at Monticello Union Cemetery, Shawnee, Kansas. Reta was born June 5, 1940 in Topeka, Kansas to Paul Ivan and Martha Mae (Smith) Guffey. She grew up in De Soto and was a lifelong resident.  Reta graduated from De Soto High School in 1959. She married Elmer E. Jenks on June 20, 1960 in De Soto.  Reta worked for 25 years as a sales associate for JC Penney’s at Oak Park Mall. She was a member of the Kaw Valley Sportsman Association.  Reta was very involved in her church, De Soto Baptist, and the church sewing group, Sewing for Others. She also enjoyed baking brownies.

Reta was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elmer; sister Joy Hayes and grandson Brandon. She is survived by her daughters: Karen M. Rodgers, De Soto, Kansas, Shelby S. (Roger) Esparza, Grove Springs, Missouri and Diana L. (Ken) Kearney, Gardner, Kansas; brother-in-law Jerry (Pam) Jenks; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
