Obituary for Peter Marquez
On January 25, 2021, Peter Marquez passed away at the age of 86. Private family services are on Tuesday, February 2, 2021: Rosary at 10:30 and Mass at 11:00. Live streaming available on the church website, https://qhrwea.church/.
Peter was born on May 13, 1934, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Antonio and Inez Marquez. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from California State University in Los Angeles, California, and Master’s Degree in Education from Emporia State University.
On October 17, 1964, he married Shirley Ann Moore in Los Angeles, California and they had four children.
Peter served in the National Guard, Marine Corps, and Army Reserve for a total of 28 years and eventually moved back to Kansas. He taught 2 years at the high school in Burlington, Kansas, and 26 years at Olathe North High School, Olathe, Kansas.
He was an active member of the Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, Bucyrus, Kansas, where he also served as Liturgical Minister and Lector. He was a Charter Member and Past Grand Knight
of the Knights of Columbus, Council 12546, and 4th Degree Knight in the Bishop Jean Baptiste Miege Assembly 3068.
Peter loved being with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed reading, working in his shop, fixing old Volkswagens, beekeeping, and birdwatching.
He is preceded in death by his father Antonio and Inez Marquez, three brothers, John Marquez, Lupe Marquez, and Tony Marquez, and sisters Teresa Jenkins, Phyllis Rocha, Mary Ramirez, and Cruz Ruth Martinez. He is survived by his wife Shirley and children, Michael Marquez (Elisa), c marquez, Elisa Foster (Patrick), and Rebecca Marquez (Joe), nine grandchildren, and one brother, Louis Marquez (Alvira), and one sister, Mary Ann Marquez.
