Obituary for Paula Sue Welsh

Paula Sue Welsh, 73, of Olathe, KS. peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on May 31, 2022, in her home, surrounded by family. Visitation will be held at 10:00am Tuesday June 7, 2022, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 13145 S. Blackbob Road, Olathe, KS. Paula was born November 24, 1948, in Kansas City, MO. to Paul Laverne and Anna Sue (Laminack) Urban. She married Robert Charles Welsh on June 20, 1998, in Olathe, KS. Paula was a devout Christian and lifelong member of The Lutheran Church. She gave selflessly to many causes, including traveling to Guatemala to provide vision healthcare to the less fortunate and sewing various items for charitable organizations that reached those in need in underdeveloped nations. After her retirement from Honeywell/Allied Signal/King Radio (Olathe, KS.), where she worked as a Manufacturing Engineer for 36 years, she played a key role in establishing and building the family electronics business, now operating in Olathe, KS. Paula’s grandchildren had a special place in her heart, she was very active in their lives, attending countless school programs, sporting events and birthday parties. Paula’s hobbies included gardening, scrapbooking, traveling and she was an avid reader. It is also known that Paula was an excellent cook, and her recipes will endure many generations to come. Paula’s legacy of goodwill, her charitable and loving heart, and her Christian values will be remembered fondly by the many she touched during her lifetime.

Paula was preceded in death by son, Shawn Messmer. She is survived by her husband Robert of the home; daughters: Brenda (Messmer) Lang, Gardner, KS. and Katherine (Walters) O’Neil, Lenexa, KS.; daughter in-law: Rhonda Messmer, Wellsville, KS; stepdaughter: Michelle Hampshire, Daytona Beach, FL, stepson: David Welsh, Live Oak, FL.; mother-in-law Irene Welsh, Daytona Beach, FL., sisters: Nancy and husband James DeLaney Olathe, KS and Ann and husband Beau Campbell, Spring Hill, KS., and eight grandchildren: John Messmer, Matt Lang, Jonathon Russell, Lee Messmer, Sarah Lang, Allison O’Neil, Bailey Hampshire and Dakota del Castillo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Ascend Hospice, 4550 W. 109th Street, Overland Park, KS. 66207. The family wishes to thank, with immeasurable gratitude, the Ascend caregivers who provided compassionate and dignified care to Paula in her final days.
