Obituary for Neta Irene Black (Johnston)

Neta was born Dec. 23, 1942 in Ventura County, CA to James Richard and Neta Leone (Line) Johnston. She graduated from Joplin High School. Neta married James Leslie Black on May 6, 1977 in Shawnee KS. Neta and James lived in many places moving to the farm in Linwood in the early 1990’s. Neta worked as an interior and exterior residential painter and later as a fork lift operator for FMC warehouse in Lawrence, KS.
Neta enjoyed gardening, mule riding and was secretary of the Midwest Mule Club for many years. She also enjoyed sitting on her porch daily to watch nature around her and was also an avid mushroom hunter. She will be missed by family and friends.
Neta was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Johnston, nephew Scott Johnston, infant daughter Beverly, and then her husband, James, in 2012. Neta is survived by her daughter, Karen McDaniel (Monte), De Soto, KS and sister Pat Stripling-Brown, Shawnee, KS. Grandchildren Seth McDaniel, Kody Osborn (Tamara); great grandchildren Kaleb, Kameron, Keiden, and Kelix; nephews Rick Stripling (Beth), Donald Stripling (significant other Joy); nieces Susan and Shelly.
