Obituary for Melanie Kay Lott (Moorhead)

Melanie Kay Lott, 64, Gardner, Kansas passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. A visitation will be held 1:00 p.m., Thursday March 25, 2021 with a Memorial service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Bruce Funeral Home, 712 S. Webster, Spring Hill, Kansas 66083 (913) 592-2244. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 15th, 2021 with additional information included on the GoFundMe website. Melanie was born March 11, 1957 in Lubbock, Texas to Jerry and Beverly (Cumbie) Moorhead. After high school, Melanie attended South Plains College earning her Bachelors degree and later attending Texas Tech to earn her Masters degree. She worked as a teacher for 34 years specializing in elementary and special education at Hugoton Elementary in Hugoton, Kansas and Nat Williams Elementary in Lubbock, Texas. In 2000, she was nominated as Kansas' Teacher of the Year. She married James “Mark” Lott who passed away in 2010. Melanie moved to the Gardner/Spring Hill area in 2013.

Melanie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Mark; daughter Maggie Lynn Marcellus and brother Mark Moorhead. She is survived by her children: Jarrod Caddel and Justin Caddel both of Spring Hill, Kansas; Emily (Matthew) Lott Johnson, Hugoton, Kansas and Matthew (Lorena) Lott, Kremmling, Colorado.
