Obituary for Mayrene Norris

Mayrene Norris, 89, of Olathe, KS formerly of Gardner, KS passed away May 20, 2021 at Santa Marta Nursing Facility in Olathe. Visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wed., May 26, 2021 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Rosary 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am Thur., May 27, 2021 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, 555 W. Main, Gardner, KS. Internment follows at St. Columbine Catholic Cemetery, Edgerton, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gardner Historical Museum, Gardner Athena Club Student Scholarship Fund or a charity of your choice. Mayrene was born on a farm in rural Wellsville, KS on Nov. 29, 1931 to Gale and Jessie (Clarke) Counselman. She graduated from Wellsville High School in 1949. After high school she attended St. Mary’s College for two years majoring in Home Economics and Chemistry. On June 16, 1951, Mayrene married William “Bill” Howard Norris. They lived much of their life on their farm between Gardner and Edgerton. Mayrene was dedicated to her family, churches (Divine Mercy of Gardner and Assumption Catholic Church in Edgerton) and her friends. She loved her volunteer work with the Gardner Senior Center, Gardner Historical Society, Athena Club, Gardner Grade Schools and Johnson County 4-H activities. Mayrene served on the Gardner Edgerton School Board for 12 years. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bill. Mayrene is survived by her seven children: Rita Norris (Robert Clark), Dallas, GA, Bill (Sharon) Norris, Shawnee, KS, Kathy (Shannon) Rankin, Olathe, KS, Eugene (TJ) Norris, Wellsville, KS, Annette (George) Lauppe, Manhattan, KS, Mary Norris Brannon and Scott Shaw, Long Beach, CA and David (Stephanie) Norris, Eudora, KS; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patty Norris, Edgerton, KS and brothers-in-law: John (Dale) Norris, Keller, TX and Ernie Mayfield, Georgetown, IN.
