Obituary for Marketa McAfee

Marketa McAfee, 85, Kansas City, Kansas passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at Azria Health, Olathe, Kansas. Private graveside service will be Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at Antioch Cemetery, Spring Hill, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ascend Hospice, 4550 W. 109th Street Overland Park, Kansas or Azria Health Care, (Memory Care Unit) 201 E Fleming Road Olathe, Kansas. Marketa was born August 20, 1934 in Searcy, Arkansas to William Odes and Zoerine Thurman (Clay) Reedy. She grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Rosebud High School, Rosebud, Arkansas. Marketa married Dewey (Doc) Rodgers McAfee on March 28, 1953 in Benton, Arkansas. They moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where Marketa has lived for the past 60 years. She worked as an executive secretary for Boise Cascade before becoming co-owner of Doc’s Auto Sales with her husband. Marketa enjoyed working with Doc in their used car business. She loved to attend any activity that involved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marketa was preceded in death by her parents, husband Doc on July 1, 2005 and siblings: Helen Marie Covington, Glenn Reedy, Charles Reedy and Mary Bingman. She is survived by her children Dr. Dewey McAfee (Deborah) and his sons Rodgers (Jaymie) and Devon, Beebe, Arkansas and Stan McAfee (Leslie) and their children Sarah Lenon (Daniel), Kansas City, Kansas, Ryan McAfee (Michelle), Oaji, California, Brett McAfee, Joshua Tree, California; great-grandchildren Walker, Sydney, Wiley, Amelia Jude and brother-in-law Ken Bingman, Spring Hill, Kansas.

Marketa’s family wishes to thank the dedicated staff of Pinnacle Ridge Nursing Center. A special thank you is given to those in the Sunflower Unit and her more recent caregivers with Ascend Hospice and Azria Healthcare.
