Lillie “Joyce” Brown, 74, De Soto, Kansas passed away Sunday, August 23, 2020 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Private Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, Kansas 66030 (913) 856-7111. Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2020 at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, Kansas with inurnment to follow. A Celebration of Life will be held after the graveside service at VFW Post #6654, De Soto, Kansas. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com Memorial contributions may be made to Olathe Health Charitable Foundation for Hospice House.

Joyce was born September 26, 1945 in Jethro, Arkansas to Roy Denvil and Martha Ellen (Childers) Cowan. She grew up in Ozark, Arkansas. Her father worked construction many places, the family moved to De Soto in 1963 so he could work at the Sunflower Ordinance Plant. Joyce graduated from De Soto High School in 1965. She married James “Eldon” Brown on June 4, 1966 in De Soto, Kansas. Joyce was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and camping. Joyce liked taking care of others. She attended Faith Builders Church, De Soto, Kansas and was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary of De Soto.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law Frank Wilkerson. She is survived by her husband Eldon of the home; children Tina and husband Ronald Gray, De Soto, Kansas and Timothy and wife Tonya Brown, Lawrence, Kansas; siblings: Gelene Wilkerson, Ozark, Arkansas, Marvin and wife Ann Cowan, De Soto, Kansas and John “Boots” and wife Wanda Cowan, De Soto, Kansas; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren with one on the way.

Eldon and family, I am so sorry for your loss. Joyce was a wonderful neighbor to my daughter and my granddaughters loved her so much. She will truly be missed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
