Laurel was born on July 6, 1936 in Waverly, Iowa to Clarence Eugene and Hazel (Schols) Cheever. Laurel married Elvin Hayes. She worked in the restaurant business as a cook and waitress most of her life. Laurel later married Patrick Martley. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing Bingo and other games. Laurel liked to go to the VFW and spend time with her friends. Her favorite time was spent being with her grandchildren.
Laurel is preceded in death by her parents; husbands Elvin Hayes and Patrick Martley; sons Roger and Dean Hayes and siblings: Clarice, Betty, Jean, Elwood, Marietta and Dixie. She is survived by her children: Rose Mangels, Dolly Hayes, Marietta Hayes, Robert Hayes, and Debbie Martley; sister Alice Schreiver; brother John Cheever; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces.
