Katharine “Annette” “Tish” Hays, 86, Gardner, Kansas passed away Friday, April 15, 2022 at Baldwin Health Care and Rehab, Baldwin City, Kansas. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, Kansas 66030 (913) 856-7111.  Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2022 at First Presbyterian Church,  138 Shawnee Street, Gardner, Kansas. Annette was born on August 29, 1935 in Gardner, Kansas to Arthur Vincent and Leona K.(Meng) Griffin. She grew up in Gardner and graduated in 1953 from Gardner High School.  After high school, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Baker University, Baldwin City, Kansas.  Annette taught school in Gardner, Olathe and Wellsville for 30 years, retiring in 1998.  She was named adult volunteer of the year in 1994 by the Kansas Health Care Association for implementing a program pairing her fifth-grade students with residents of Wellsville  Retirement Community.   Annette also enjoyed many years waitressing at  Oxford Place in Olathe.  She married Thomas P. Hays, June 21, 1982 in Gardner, Kansas.  Annette was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was an Elder.  She enjoyed sewing and reading and loved going to garage sales.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents; son Scott A. Beckham; twin brother John Thomas Griffin; brother Don Arthur Griffin and son-in-law Mark Sutton .  She is survived by her husband Tom of the home; children: Julia “Julie” Sutton, Gardner, Kansas, Steven D. (Mona) Beckham, Gardner, Kansas, Theresa J. (Chris) Walter, Raytown, Missouri and Mary C. (Eric) Wyskomp, Springfield, Missouri; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother Charles N. (Linda) Griffin, Estes Park, Colorado; sister-in-law Beverly Griffin, Lawrence, Kansas and 4 nephews and 1 niece.
