Obituary for Judith Ann Whitcomb

Judith A. Whitcomb, 79, Spring Hill, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at her daughter’s home in Spring Hill, KS. Services will include a visitation Monday Nov.2nd 6:30-8:00 pm and a funeral to be held Tuesday Nov. 3rd at 9:30 am. Both services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 28750 Hospital Dr, Paola, Kansas 66071. Burial to follow at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Judy was born on January 12, 1941 in Emporia, Kansas to Lawrence and Celia Nevada (Loomis) Van Vranken. She graduated from Yates Center High School, Yates Center, Kansas. Judy married Carlyle Whitcomb on August 5, 1961 in Yates Center, KS. She was a homemaker who enjoyed raising her family. Carl and Judy made their home in Hoyt, KS and they remained there until their children were grown. Judy took pride in sewing clothing for her children and grandchildren. Judy spent many summers canning and filling the shelves with jars full of a variety fruits and vegetables. A move was made to Spring Hill, KS in 1986 and Judy resided there until her death. History was her passion, especially learning about the Civil War. She liked to read and sew. She was an active role model in the lives of all of her grandchildren and she loved every minute that she was able to spend with them. She was an active member of her church and enjoyed many friendships that she developed there. She also loved to spoil her cat Trudy.

Judy is preceded in death by her true love and husband Carlyle, her parents, brother Lawrence “Bud” Van Vranken and son in law Robert Carlisle. She is survived by her children: Julia Carlisle, Corpus Christi, TX, Virginia (Mark) Whelan, Overland Park, KS, Louise (Robert) Bardwell, Spring Hill, Kansas, twelve grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
