Obituary for Jack Leroy Davis

Jack Leroy Davis, Sr., of Olathe, KS, passed away January 8, 2023 at St. Joseph Place, Overland Park, Kansas. A public memorial will be held later this spring on Saturday, May 27 from 11:30am-2:30pm, at the Indian Creek Library Event Space, 16100 W. 135th St., Olathe, KS 66062. Jack was born at home on May 28, 1936 in Olathe, KS to William Curtis and Anna Phoebe (Godfrey) Davis. Jack was a 1954 graduate of John P. St. John Memorial High School in Olathe. He married Ruth Dell DeNoon on March 3, 1956 in Olathe. Jack began his professional career in Kroger Grocery Stores and then worked in several other industries including auto parts and convenience stores. Fire-fighting was a life-long passion of Jack’s, including volunteer services with the Prairie Center Improvement Association Volunteer Fire Service and the Olathe Fire Department. Jack enjoyed puzzle books, reading and attending events with his grandchildren and family. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Ruth; his parents; sisters Shirley and Peggy; brother Gene; nephew Bill “Butch” Witcher; and son-in-law Richard Powell. He is survived by his children: Deborah Powell, Leawood, KS; Diane (Bob) Fisher, Oak Grove, MO, Jack Davis, Jr., Mountain View, MO, Donna (Larry) Ristau, Shawnee, KS, Thomas (Jennie) Davis, Imlay City, MI, Denise Massey, Overland Park, KS, and Darcy (Steve) Nendza, Oak Forest, IL; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
