Obituary for Ima "Jean" Epperson (Davis)

Ima “Jean” Epperson, 97, De Soto, Kansas passed away Thursday, April 6, 2023 at her home. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023 with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. at De Soto Baptist Church, 8655 Copeland Way, De Soto, Kansas. Burial at De Soto Cemetery. Jean was born in Cass, Arkansas on September 12, 1925 to James W. Davis, MD and Sarah Victoria (Plymale) Davis. She grew up in Arkansas where she graduated from high school. Jean married Richard A. Epperson on March 2, 1946 in Rossville, Georgia. Jean and Richard moved to De Soto in 1952. She continued her education at KU Medical Center, earning her nursing degree. She was a nurse, working since 1970 in De Soto. Jean was a member of the De Soto Baptist Church, serving as treasurer for many years. She was a member of E.H.U., National Nursing Association and VFW Auxiliary. Jean was a foster parent. She loved solving crossword puzzles and was a fan of Kansas City Royals Baseball and Chiefs Football.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard, siblings: Mable Freeman, Quita Tankersley, Warren Davis, Thelma Cowan, Elizabeth Faught, Lucy Mae Cowan, Ed Davis, Arlyn Davis, Frankie Turner and Leona Nordin. She is survived by her niece Traci Griffin and husband Jeff, De Soto, Kansas; a special daughter, Judy Wilkins; grandchildren Devin and Mason and great-grandchild Greyson.
