Obituary for Harold Dean Taylor

Harold Dean Taylor, 77, of Wellsville, KS passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Jan. 22, 2020. Visitation 5:00-8:00 pm Mon., Jan. 27, 2020 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Funeral 1:00 pm Tue., Jan. 28, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial follows at Wellsville Cemetery, Wellsville, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the new building fund for the Wellsville Library or the Wellsville Joint Recreation Commission. Harold was born Aug. 14, 1942 in Gardner, KS to Thomas Reynolds and Frances Elizabeth (Johnston) Taylor. He grew up in Gardner where he graduated from Gardner High School in 1960. Harold married Carol Jennings on Sept. 30, 1961 in Spring Hill, KS. They lived in Spring Hill, then moved to farm near Gardner and then moved to Wellsville in 1970. He was a “Jack of all Trades.” Harold drove a school bus as a young man while farming in Gardner. He started Taylor Oil in 1970, which he ran for almost 50 years. Harold bought out Bob Bray Oil Co. and then moved to Wellsville and bought out Lowell Collins Oil. He attended Wellsville Baptist Church. Harold served on the Wellsville Zoning Board of Appeals, Wellsville City Council, 1985 President of the Kansas Oil Marketers Assoc. (KOMA), National Oil Jobbers Assoc. Advisory Board (NOJC) and was a spokesman for Amoco Oil Diesel Seminars. He was an avid Wellsville Eagle sports fan. He will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Bernard Taylor. Harold is survived by his wife, Carol, of the home; children: Karen and husband Curt Wright, Karla Taylor, Kurt Taylor and Andie Sawyers, all of Wellsville, KS; grandchildren: Derek, Anthony, Kyle and Lauren and great-grandchildren: Kaydence, Colton, Brayden and Jackson.
