Gaylen Dale Smith, 61, Gardner, Kansas passed away Friday, October 23, 2020 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be 10:30 am with funeral service to follow at 11:30 am on Wednesday, October 28, 2020 at Gardner Church of the Nazarene, 16640 N. Moonlight RD, Gardner, Kansas. Gaylen was born on July 12, 1959 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Kenneth Nile and Patricia (Barham) Smith. He grew up in Arkansas but Gaylen and his family lived many places due to the military. He graduated in 1979 from Hopewell High School, Hopewell, Virginia. Gaylen was a veteran of the United States Army, serving six years. He married Janet Lynn Clore in Gardner, Kansas on May 4, 1984. Gaylen was a production manufacturing worker for Upfield Butter Company. He was a member of the Gardner Church of the Nazarene. Gaylen was an Arkansas Razorback fan and enjoyed spending time with his family and wrestling.
Gaylen was preceded in death by his father Kenneth, stepfather Reverend RV Schultz and daughter Patricia. He is survived by his wife Janet of the home; mother Patricia, Olathe, Kansas; children: Christopher (Gina) Smith, Ottawa, Kansas, Katrina Smith, Gardner, Kansas, Melissa Smith, Ottawa, Kansas and Jacob Smith, Gardner, Kansas; brothers: Mark Leroy Smith, Mission, Kansas, Wayne Allen Smith and Houston Lee Smith both of Olathe, Kansas; one granddaughter and three grandsons.
