Fred was born September 21, 1942 to Hubert Fred and Mary Jean (Holtzman) Kirk, in Ottawa, KS. and grew up in the Gardner -Edgerton area. He attended Gardner High School where he played sports and met the love of his life, Nancy Ray, who he later married. They have three children: Kimberly, Scott and Robbie. Fred and Nancy celebrated 60 years of marriage in May, 2022. They have 9 grand-kids and 19 great-grand-kids.
As a youth, Fred spent his summers playing baseball. Later in life he coached his two sons and many others, creating lasting memories and gaining their respect and friendships that remain in place today.
He enjoyed fishing, boating and camping with his family – but his real love was car racing! Racing around area dirt tracks and state fairs; “ain’t this livin” painted on the #27 summed it up.
Fred retired from Delco-Remy, Olathe, KS and took with him many, many close friendships and a lot of “Good ole boys,” partners and buds.
After retirement Fred and Nancy became “snowbirds” spending winters in south Texas. Some of their best times and friends came out of those yearly trips.
Fred was a member of the Spring Hill Masonic Lodge # 56. He was an avid sports fan, who loved his Chief’s and Jayhawks. He never knew a stranger and his ability to tell a story or make you laugh is unmatched. His smile was warming and his laugh was infectious. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Fred is survived by his wife, Nancy of the home; daughter Kim (Tracy) Donovan, Gardner, KS; sons: Scott Kirk, Gardner, KS, Rob (Glenda) Kirk, Edgerton, KS; 9 grandchildren: Dustin (Amanda) Donovan, Wellsville, KS, Cristy (Brandon) Douglas, Wellsville, KS, Trevor (Meagan) Donovan, Gardner, KS, Nicki (Jake) Ring, Shawnee, KS, Carley (Pat) Armato, Gardner, KS, Josh Kirk and Lexus Kirk, both of Gardner, KS, Dalton (Witney) Kirk, Wellsville, KS, Montana Bell, Eudora, KS and 19 great grandkids; siblings: Peggy Velasques, Kansas City, KS, Margaret (Mike) Maloney, Metarie, LA. and Nancy Matthew, Spring Hill, KS. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and lifelong “bonus/3rd son” Randy (Linda) Tucker and daughter Selena.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Don.
