Ethel M. Solomon Cundiff, 98, of Overland Park, KS, died on December 14, 2022. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com.            

Ethel was born on February 28, 1924, in Blair, KS, the fifth child of eight children to Arthur and Mary Solomon. She grew up in Chillicothe, MO before moving to the Kansas City area.

Ethel took pride in being a “Rosie the Riveter” in her early years working on aircraft engines at the Pratt & Whitney Plant in Kansas City, MO.

On April 13,1947 Ethel married Robert (Bob) Cundiff in Chillicothe.  They had two children, James and Lorie.

She enjoyed gardening, baking and traveling with the family.  In her later years, Lorie and Ethel would take an annual trip to Mexico where they met lifelong friends.  Ethel cherished her neighbors through the years and kept in touch with family and friends through her letter writing.  She was an avid animal lover, caring for numerous pets throughout her lifetime. 

She cherished her time with the Robert Rook family: Herb & Janet and Kelsey & Adria; Bill & Ann and Melanie and special close friend Kate Darkstar.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) in 1991; her son James in 1980, her parents; her brothers: Keith, Art, Ken, and Jerry; her sisters: Doris, Roberta, and Betty. 

She is survived by her daughter Lorie Cundiff of Lenexa, KS, and nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of life will be held at a future date.  

As lifelong animal lovers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wayside Waifs or Kansas City Hospice who took great care of Ethel.
