Edward Albert Read, Sr, 88, Smithville, Missouri passed away Friday, October 21, 2022 at Tiffany Springs Rehab & Healthcare Center, Kansas City, Missouri. Graveside service with Military Honors will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 28, 2022 at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, Kansas. Edward was born on October 3, 1934 in Woodbury, New Jersey to Paul and Alberta Read. He grew up in Runnemede, New Jersey and graduated from Audabon High School. Edward joined the United States Navy which sent him to schools in Norman, Oklahoma, Memphis, Tennessee and Olathe Naval Base.  While in Olathe, he met his wife, Neva Hedrick.  Edward and Neva were married on June 17, 1955 in Olathe, Kansas. Edward worked government jobs in Dover, Delaware, Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Lake City, Florida.  He worked for TWA, retiring after 30 years. Edward was a member of IAM District Lodge 142 International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, Fidelity Lodge #339 Shrine Club, Northland and Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Edward is survived by his wife of 67 years, Neva; son Edward (Cindy) Read, Jr, Kansas City, Missouri; daughter Linda Sue (Rick) Hodnett , Palm Bay, Florida; grandchildren: Aaron (Jade), Justin (Tiffany) and Jenna (Luis); great-grandchildren: Drew , Max, Brooklynn, Madison, Rylan, Aubrey, Samuel and Emilio; sisters-in-law Joan, New Jersey and Betsey, Maryland; and many nephews and nieces.  Edward was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Alberta; brothers Paul and Robert and sister Doris.
