Doris Jean Vervynck, 90, of Gardner, KS, passed away April 6, 2023 at Santa Marta Nursing Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 pm Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS. Funeral 10:00 am Friday, April 14, 2023 at First Presbyterian Church-Gardner, 138 E. Shawnee, Gardner, KS. Burial follows service at St. Columbia Catholic Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Doris was born on Nov. 9, 1932 in rural Gardner, KS to Charles Edward and Helen Mae (Ewing) Knabe. She was a lifelong area resident who lived on the farm where she was born except for two years. Doris often rode a horse to school. She was a 1950 graduate of Gardner High School. Doris married Thomas Vervynck, Jr. on May 15, 1954 in Gardner, KS. They farmed the family farmstead. She was an active member of First Presbyterian-Gardner where she served as a deacon and was on the church dinner committee. Doris read a lot and was active in 4H as a young adult. She enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska among other places. Doris will be dearly missed by family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas, in 1991 and daughter, Carol, in 2006 and sister, Jo Ann Clark, in 2022. Doris is survived by her son, Mike, of the home and brother, Vernon and Leone Knabe all of Gardner, KS; two grandchildren: Jamie and Jeremy Logan, Grain Valley, MO and Josh and Catherine Leitner, Valley Falls, KS and five great-grandchildren.
