Obituary for Doris Jean Colson
Doris Jean Colson, 89, Olathe, Kansas passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at The Healthcare Resort, Olathe, Kansas. Visitation will be 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2021, followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2021. Both will be held at Grace United Methodist Church, 11485 S Ridgeview Road, Olathe, Kansas 66061. Doris was born on June 25, 1931 in McCamish Township near Edgerton, Kansas to Clifford Vernon and Lucille Hortense Thoms. She attended Olathe Schools. Doris married Edwin Colson on April 19, 1949 and they were together until his death in 1978. She then graduated from Beauty School after two years to earn her beautician’s license, a lifelong dream of hers. Doris opened her own beauty shop, The Head Shed in Olathe. She sold it and retired after working for 21 years.
She was a lifelong Olathe area resident. Doris was a member of Grace United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, spend time with her best friends and was an amazing cook. But her favorite thing of all was spending time with her family.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Edwin, and sister Vida Thoms. She is survived by her children: Ed (Judy) Colson. Olathe, Kansas, Steve (Carol) Colson, Kansas City, Missouri and Lorri (Keith) Kelley, DeSoto, Kansas; sister Beverly Rainwater, Olathe, Kansas; five grandchildren; Amanda (Chad) Williams, Jessica (Joel) Adell, Matt (Katlyn) Kelley, Ed Colson, Andy (Jess) Kelley and two great-great grandchildren, Allie & Joshua.
The family requests that donations made in memory of Doris' life be sent to Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe with the proceeds going to the church's Young Energetic Seniors (YES) program.
