Obituary for Donald Russell Hickman Sr.

Donald Russell Hickman, Sr. 94, Gardner, Kansas passed away Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Vintage Park, Gardner, Kansas.  Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, Kansas.  Burial at Gardner Cemetery with Military Honors.  Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, Gardner, Kansas. Don was born in Kansas City, Kansas on September 17, 1927 to Russell Carter and Susan Emmaline (Pence) Hickman. He grew up in Kansas City, Kansas and attended Turner High School. He married Wylodine Lack June 20, 1947.  Wylodine passed away in 2005.  Don and Jeanne Schlax were married Sept 1, 2007.  Don was in the U.S. Navy, serving in both World War II and the Korean Wars.   He worked for Proctor & Gamble Soap Manufacturer for 30 years.  Don was a member of First Baptist Church, Gardner.  He belonged to the Spring Hill Masonic Lodge for 65 years.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife Wylodine and son, Rev. Harold Lee Hickman; siblings: Mildred Trude, Forrest Hickman, Hazel Hickman, Roselle Holdeman, Francis Cooper, Billy Ray Hickman and Bobby Ray Hickman.  He is survived by his wife Jeanne, Shawnee, KS; children: Carolyn (Dwain) Pyle, DeSoto, KS, Janet (Tim) Bowyer, Ottawa, KS, Donald (Shirley) Hickman, Jr., Gardner; daughter in law: Lynn Hickman, Gardner, KS; Eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
