Obituary for Deloyn W. Huffman

Deloyn W. Huffman, 85, Gardner, Kansas passed away Friday, May 29, 2020 at Wellsville Community Retirement Center, Wellsville, Kansas. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan, Kansas. A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Deloyn was born January 14, 1935 in Wauneta, KS to Dallas and Nettie (Willits) Huffman and raised on the family farm with three brothers and two sisters. He married Marilyn Petty in Belknap, KS on August 31, 1957 and they started their own family in Sedan, KS. They moved to Gardner, KS in 1972 where he worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor in 1995 after 32 years of service. He and Marilyn enjoyed traveling around the country by motorcycle and square dancing with the Docey Dandies. Upon retiring, he took up walking, which turned into jogging and this started him on the path to running. He participated in many 5 K’s and track events. He ran his first half marathon at the age of 70 and represented Kansas in the 2001 U.S. Senior Olympics in track and field.

He is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Peggy (Dan) Rodriguez, son Curtis (Kay) Huffman, grandchildren Danielle (Michael) Giarla and Alex (Amanda) Rodriguez, and newly born great-grandson Lincoln. He is also survived by his mother Nettie Huffman, siblings Galen Huffman, Coy Huffman, Mike Huffman and Bonnie Schnack. He was preceded in death by his father and sister Clysta Huffman.
