Obituary for David Joe Shreve

David Joe Shreve, 72, Baldwin City, KS, formerly of Gardner, KS, passed away Aug. 11, 2020 at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, KS. Visitation 11:00 am to 12:30 pm Mon., Aug. 17, 2020 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Graveside service with military honors follows at 1:00 pm at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Friends will gather at the Gardner American Legion after the graveside service. David “Pickle” was born May 21, 1948 in Windsor, MO to James Freeman Shreve and Edith Irene (Tracy) Shreve. He was raised by his step-father Ralph Shreve. He graduated from Gardner High School in 1966. David was a life-long area resident but resided in California and Idaho for a while. He served in the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant E5 from 1967-1971. David married Julie Ann Trigg on Dec. 7, 1990 in South Lake Tahoe, California. He was a member of Local Labor Union #1290. David worked for Holland Construction and William White and Sons. He was a member of American Legion Post #19 and a life-member of the VFW Post both of Gardner. David was quite the character: ornery, a trouble maker and fiercely loyal. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and will be missed by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father Ralph Shreve; siblings: Myrna Shreve and Jon Shreve. David is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters: Megan and husband Jason Johnson, Melissa and husband Troy Good, all of Baldwin City, KS; three grandchildren: Tucker, Wyatt and Jett; siblings: Ina Warren, Pittsburgh, KS, Gayle Velasquez, Gardner, KS, Dennis Shreve, Liberty, MO, Becky Pyle and Lynne Shreve, both of Gardner, KS.
