Obituary for Clara Agnes Smith

Clara Agness Smith, 91, Gardner, KS, passed away April 21, 2022 at Homestead of Eudora. Inurnment will be 2:00 pm Friday April 29th, 2022 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe, KS. Condolences may be left at www.brucefuneralhome.com

Clara was born July 24, 1930 in Shelby, MO to Earl Wayne and Clara Marie (Seymour) Asher. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from high school in Marceline, MO. Clara had lived in Kansas City, MO before moving to Gardner, KS in 1960. She was married to Harold B. Smith for nearly 47 years and worked at the Gardner Post Office for 18 years. Harold passed away in 1994. She married Virgil Gastinger in 2006. Clara and Virgil were models for several humorous Hallmark cards. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gardner, KS. Previously she had been an active member of First Methodist Church in Olathe. Clara enjoyed activities at the Gardner Senior Citizens Center; especially playing cards and games. She will be dearly missed by family and friends

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold, in 1994 and Virgil, in 2006, a granddaughter and siblings: Alton, Gilbert and Carlos; son-in-law, Jack McVaugh and daughters-in-law: Betsy Asher and Julia Smith. Clara is survived by her children: C. Ellen Morgan, Independence, MO, William Chester Smith and companion Mary Colby, Eudora, KS, Karen and husband Jeff Wade, Mountain View, MO and Curtis W. and wife Linda Smith, Pueblo, CO; siblings:  Harley Asher, Marceline, MO, Reta McVaugh, Kansas City, KS and Joyce and husband Howard Brecheisen, Bartlesville, OK; 13 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
