Obituary for Barbara Lee Buckley

Barbara Lee Buckley, 77, of Basehor, KS, passed away on April 2, 2022, at KU Medical Center after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Barbara was born January 30, 1945, in Gardner, KS to Clarence Edward and Edith Isabelle (Cooper) Johnson. She graduated from De Soto High School in 1963 and attended two years of business school. Barbara married Larry Joe Buckley on August 28, 1965, at Desoto United Methodist Church in De Soto, KS. She worked as an Administrative Secretary for the Special Education Department at De Soto School District until her retirement. Barbara was a member of the Basehor United Methodist Church and the DeSoto Pleasant Hour Club. Prior to moving to Basehor, Barbara was a long-time member of the DeSoto United Methodist Church. Her granddaughters were the joy of her life and she attended as many of their activities as she could. She and Larry loved to travel whether it was a road trip, a cruise or snow-birding in Florida. One of their favorite destinations was the coast of Maine to take in the sights and enjoy fresh seafood. Barbara will be dearly missed by her family and many lifelong friends and leaves a void that cannot be filled.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter and her brother, Bumper Johnson. Barbara is survived by her husband, Larry, of the home; children: Amy Buckley, Lenexa, KS, Brad (Jen), Girard, KS and Carrie Buckley, Basehor, KS and two grandchildren: Hayden and Madison.

Visitation will be held 10:00 am Friday, April 8, 2022, at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S. Center, Gardner, KS. Celebration of Life follows at 11:00 am.
