Obituary for Arlene LaVerne Thompson
Arlene LaVerne Thompson, 93, Gardner, KS, passed away Aug. 31, 2020. Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:30 pm Thur., Sept. 3, 2020 at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Graveside service and interment follows at 3:00 pm at Gardner Cemetery, Gardner, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Gardner, KS. Arlene was born September 3, 1926 to Margaret Hessenflow and Gordon W. Moll in Olathe, Kansas. She graduated from Olathe High School in 1944. She was a professional dancer during WWII and entertained at Military Bases, USO’s and for other programs. She had a dancing school called Arlene Thompson Dancing School in Olathe for 20 years. She married Hugh F. Thompson Jr, who was a farmer in Olathe, Kansas in 1948. She was also a Charter Member of the Chapter H.L.P.E.O. in Olathe, and a member of GFWC Athena Club in Gardner. She also was a volunteer at the Olathe Medical Center for many years. She will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Hugh on July 10, 2019; her parents; brother Kenneth G. Moll, Sr. and son-in-law James Robert Long, DVM of Kearney, Missouri. Arlene is survived by her daughter Victoria L. Long of Kearney, Missouri and son Timothy M. Thompson of Gardner, Kansas; nephew Kenneth G. Moll, Jr. of Gardner, Kansas and many nieces and nephews.
