Obituary for Earl "Bud" Dean Rogers

Earl Dean “Bud” Rogers, age 86, of Warsaw, Missouri, passed away, Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Golden Valley Memorial Hospital in Clinton, Missouri. He was born on June 22, 1932, on Bessy Farm in Osage County, Kansas, to Gilbert and Pearl Rogers.

He attended Bessy one-room school and Osage City East Topeka Jr. High School. He was a graduate of the Kansas Highway Patrol Academy. He enlisted early in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge at the age of 19.

Throughout his life, Bud was employed as a Union heavy-equipment operator, an undersheriff for the Osage County Kansas Sheriff’s Department, a deputy for the Jefferson and Douglas County Kansas Sheriffs’ Departments, the owner/operator for long-haul trucking, a small business owner and farmer in Overbrook, Kansas, and retired from the Kansas State Highway Patrol.

He was united in marriage to Leta Griffin in 1980 in Overbrook, Kansas.

He was a member of the Ridgway Masonic Lodge A.F. & A.M. #62 of Overbrook, Kansas, receiving his 50 year pin on April 14, 2014. He was also a 32nd degree Mason under the Topeka Valley of the Scottish Rite and a member of the ARAB Shrine in Topeka, Kansas. He also was a member of the Anderson Rebel American Legion Post in Overbrook, Kansas, as well as serving on the Overbrook Fire Department in the mid-1960’s.

He is survived by his wife, Leta Rogers, of the home, 4 children; Earl Gene Rogers, Danny Ray Rogers, Darrell Lee Rogers and Gilbert Oren Rogers (Little Buddy), 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 5 step-children, Robin, Ronnie, Ricky, Randy and Robert, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018, at 2:00 P.M., at the Reser Funeral Home in Warsaw, Missouri, with military honors to follow. Burial will be in the Gardner Cemetery in Gardner, Kansas, at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 8, 2018. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, or the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o Reser Funeral Home, P.O. Box 910, Warsaw, Missouri 65355.
