Virgil was born June 30, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri to Virgil Conner and Lois Jeanette (Wilson) Corbin. He grew up in KCMO until his family moved to Merriam, Kansas where Virgil graduated from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1965. After high school, he served with the United States Marine Corp from 1965-1967, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. Virgil married Janice Wendt on July 5, 1968 in Merriam, Kansas, settling in Roeland Park, Kansas until their family moved to Hillsdale where they lived for 40 years. Virgil owned and operated Corbin’s Auto Service in Shawnee, Kansas for 25 years. After retirement from the auto garage, he worked for Spring Hill Police Department as an officer for a number of years before becoming a State Park Ranger at Hillsdale Lake. Virgil then founded, and was manager of, the Hillsdale Range and Training Facility until his death. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and served nearly two decades with the Hillsdale Ruritan civic club. Virgil was also a member of the Jubilee Family Ministry Center, in Olathe, Kansas and a dedicated parishioner and administrator for the sound department for the last 19 years. Virgil’s service to others was evident in all he did and who knew him. Virgil enjoyed being with his granddaughters, always had a smile, was quick with a joke, and was loved by everyone.
Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold Corbin. He is survived by his wife Janice of the home; sons Chad and wife Molly of Paola, Kansas and Kelly and wife Joanna of Parker, Colorado; siblings: Jackie (David) Pounds of Shawnee, Kansas, Mickey Corbin of Overland Park, Kansas, David (Linda) Corbin of Shawnee, Kansas, Suzy Jansen of Durham, New Hampshire, Reverend Lois (Dennis) Kelley of Lenexa, Kansas and Walter Corbin of Merriam, Kansas and granddaughters: Sierra, Danielle, Kylie, Katelyn and Mallory.
